Description
Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS is seeking an experienced Math Intervention
Specialist/Teacher (Elementary) to support our Lower and Upper Elementary (grades 1st - 6th)
classrooms for the 2019-2020 school year.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Math Intervention
Specialist will work with both the Lower and Upper Elementary Guides/Teachers and other
Learning Specialists inside and outside of classroom to support student learning and
achievement. The Math Intervention Specialist creates and implement strategies and develops
instructional plans (with teachers) to support the students who need math-specific
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
● Identify and evaluate appropriate materials/lessons for students and or training for
teachers
● Plan and conduct 6-8 week progress monitoring cycles with Guides and Specialists to
assess the need for improvements in mathematics instruction
● Assist teachers with the development and administration of informal and formal school
wide math assessments
● Collect, analyze and interpret classroom- and school-level mathematics data (i.e.,
NWEA MAP) as part of regular data meetings with teachers and administrators
● Provide small group instruction to individual and/or small groups of students (i.e.
differentiate to meet the learning needs of students)
● Provide professional development training/workshop appropriate for teachers and staff
as it relates to improving mathematics instruction at SSMA.
● Assist teacher with mathematics project-based teaching methods, activities and lesson
planning
● Participate in meeting(s) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information as
required with external agencies and/or parents
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching & Learning
Requirements

● Ability to provide guidance to teachers that will enhance their literacy lesson plans
● Strong interpersonal skills
● Excellent written and communication skills
● Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google Drive
● A love of children and a sense of humor
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required from accredited college or university required (a
degree in Elementary Education and/or Mathematics preferred)
• Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in K-8 teaching math
and/or curriculum development and instruction preferred
• Experience with Common Core Standards for Mathematics, and research-based
math intervention programs
• Know of best practice teaching methodologies or frameworks with particular
emphasis on mathematics learning for students in grades K-6
• Elementary teaching license and/or certification or eligibility for certification
preferred
• Experience in delivering in-service and or professional development training
and/or workshops
• 3-5 prior years of experience in a public, public charter, private and/or
Montessori classroom environment(s) preferred
• Demonstrated success in raising student mathematics achievement levels
• Spanish or French fluency a plus
