Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS (SSMA) is seeking an experienced Student Behavioral Support Assistant for the 2022-2023 school year.
 
Position Summary:
The primary role of a Student Behavioral Support Assistant is to assist the 2-member Guide/Teacher and Classroom Assistant teams in all facets of daily classroom management and student support. This can vary between teachers, and classrooms but most BAs can expect to divide their time between working with students, providing behavioral support and completing administrative tasks assigned by the coordinators or Director..
 
As a paraeducator, an DA/BA is not a teacher, which means that he or she is not responsible for the overall learning that will take place. Ultimately, it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that students learn, make progress in their class work and/or on their individualized education program (IEP) goals and are safe and productive in school. Still, the DA/BAis an integral part of the educational team because he or she provides the support a teacher needs to maximize instructional time.
 
He/she will play an important role in driving SSMA’s cultivation of a joyous, robust , success-driven student culture. This individual will provide reflective and restorative interventions with students who have earned “redirection” support both within and outside of the classroom. The primary role in these interventions will be to work with the classroom teams to identify and address the root of the behavior and to minimize time outside of the classroom and maximize time in the classroom. This individual will collaborate extensively with the Lower and Upper Elementary Guides, Social Worker, Student Success Team members and classroom staff. In support of the students s/he provides interventions for, this individual will communicate and partner with Academic ad Operations Teams members on a regular basis.

Other Professional Competencies & Experiences
AA or Bachelor’s degree preferred
A demonstrated track record of cultivating strong relationships with and amongst students
A demonstrated track record of building a joyful, highly-efficient, learning-focused culture within groups
of children
Prior experience providing 1 on 1 support to general and special education students requiring behavioral
supports
CPI Certification strongly preferred
Experience working in a diverse public charter school is highly preferred

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide restorative and reflective interventions with students who have received referrals out of
the classroom or who are requiring 1:1 support in order to remain in the classroom
● Provide crisis intervention and behavior management to expedite students' return to classrooms in
collaboration with student support services, support RTI, and behavior intervention
● Collaborate extensively with the Children House, Lower and Upper elementary faculty
● Monitor social-emotional goals for students receiving counseling
● Support implementation of schoolwide student success and behavior management systems
● Support with schoolwide duties as necessary
● Meet professional expectations for dress, communication, timely completion of tasks, etc. as
outlined in the staff handbook
