Position Summary:
Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS (SSMA) is seeking an experienced, flexible and creative Librarian to support the growth and development of the school’s library programs (i.e, mobile library, main children’s library and Alfred Schomburg Reading Center) for the 2022-2023 school year. Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Children's Librarian works with teachers and reading specialists to support student learning and achievement by coordinating the activities of the library for students in Pk3-6th grade.

The Librarian collaborates with teachers in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library media program, provides specialized instruction to students and teachers, and oversees the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, and curriculum resources.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
Teaching and Learning
●  Maintain a library culture that encourages appreciation of literature; supporting school reading incentive programs, providing book talks and reading consultations for teachers and students
●  Collaborate with classroom teachers in the preparation, presentation, and evaluation of lesson plans that utilize information resources
●  Provide instruction for students and staff in the use of print and electronic reference tools and information literacy processes
●  Ensure that all literature is leveled and cataloged appropriately
●  Promote the integrated use of technology as a learning tool to support learning
●  Assist teachers and students in using of Library and media resources and problem-solving
●  Ability to design and present synchronous and asynchronous lessons as part of the school’s 22-23 distant learning curriculum and program (if required).
 
Library Program Administration
●  Create and implement procedures for library media center operations including, but not limited to: planning and evaluation, budgeting, scheduling student and teacher use, instruction, services, facilities, and collection development (selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, inventory
● Model instructional, and information literacy strategies and coach teachers in the integration with curriculum
● Schedule the library media facilities for instruction and supervising student use
● Participate in meetings as required by the school or external agencies
● Other Duties as assigned by the Principal

● Excellent interpersonal skills
● Strong written and written skills
● Knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google Docs
● A love of children sense of humor

Education and Experience:
● Master in Library Science (MLS) required.
● Experience teaching, modeling, and coaching educational technology for both students and teachers
● Prior experience in the management and administration of a school library preferred
● Spanish or French fluency a plus

Working Conditions:
The working environment characteristics described represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position involves sitting, bending, standing, pushing, and reaching with both hands/arms as necessary, and may require some lifting up to 40lbs. In addition, routinely uses standard office equipment.

Compensation:
Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is provided.
