Position Summary:

Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS is seeking an experienced educator to support our Primary, Lower and eventually Upper Elementary students and classrooms for the 2020-21 school year.

 

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal will work with the Primary and Elementary Guides/Teachers to support student learning and achievement. The person in this position will develop and implement strategies to support the students’ progress with appropriate learning methods, lesson plans and instructional techniques. The Assistant Principal acts as an instructional coach and liaison between the teachers and the Principal, coordinating assessments, activities in the classrooms and providing support and guidance in all areas of Montessori education.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assists the Principal in the development, implementation, improvement, and evaluation of the instructional program, including the Spanish Immersion program, ensuring conformance to state standards, the school’s mission, and Board goals and policies.

  1. Works collaboratively with all staff to strengthen the instructional program including providing coaching and professional development
  2. Evaluates and orders classroom materials. .
  3. Assists the Principal in teacher observations.
  4. Responsible for special duty assignments as directed by the Principal.
  5. Attends special events and school-sponsored activities when possible.
  6. Assists in recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating academic staff.
  7. Plans and presents workshops to parents and interested members of the community about the Montessori philosophy of education, teaching techniques and materials used.

  3. 5 years of Montessori teaching experience, instructional coach/curriculum coordinator, and/or administration required
  4. Prior work and/or administrative experience in a Montessori public, private or charter school preferred
  5. Prior experience implementing a bilingual or Montessori dual immersion program preferred
  6. Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of traditionally underserved students
  7. Prior experience working in diverse learning environments
  8. Spanish or native Spanish language fluency a plus

Position Summary:

Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS is seeking an experienced English Language Learner (i.e., ELL, ESL, and TESOL) Teacher to support students and classrooms requiring English language acquisition supports for the SY 2020-2021.

 

Under the general supervision of the ELL Coordinator, the English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher will work with both the Primary and Elementary Guides/Teachers to support student learning and achievement. The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher creates and implements strategies to support students’ progress with appropriate learning methods, lesson plans, and instructional techniques to evaluate and improve each student’s level of English fluency.

 

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

  • Develop individualized academic programs designed to meet the specific needs of ELL students (to include LEP/NEP)
  • Implement the individualized programs by working with small groups of students to improve their language skills and academic performance
  • Administer assessments and analyze formal or informal test outcomes to further determine needs of students
  • Confer and co-plan with SSMA Montessori classroom teachers, and other specialists, as appropriate, to determine and support the English language learning and other academic needs of ELL student
  • Provide language instruction to help students develop in all the English language domains
  • Participate in meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information as required with external agencies and or parents
  • Continually communicate with children on instructional and behavioral expectations to keep them informed of their progress
  • Manage and prepare records of each student's progress and meet mandated requirements
  • Stay aware of and responsive to state and federal ELL testing and reporting guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or ELL Coordinator.

Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School is American Montessori Society and Middle States accredited from preschool through sixth grade.  Our program is centered on the writings and vision of Dr. Maria Montessori, providing a directed best practices learning environment. Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding and promoting the Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS vision, mission, and goals to students, parents, and community.
  • Documenting teaching, observation, and student progress/activities/outcomes.
  • Develop and administer an authentic Montessori Primary, Lower, or Upper Elementary curriculum and assessments consistent with accredited Montessori training and aligned with the district’s Common Core State Standards.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including for students with special needs and/or English Language Learners.
  • Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Working with the community of students, teachers, parents, and administrators, in articulating and maintaining the integrity and scope of the Montessori method.
  • Preparing the Montessori classroom environment to meet the students’ needs and interests.
  • Presenting consistent individual and group lessons to the students and supporting each child’s socio-emotional and academic progress and learning success.
  • Develop Montessori materials and give Montessori lessons that speak to the interest of individual students
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping/reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by District and Public Charter School Board procedures and applicable laws.
  • Instruct students in the principles of grace and courtesy
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with District of Columbia and Public Charter School Board assessment requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Montessori trained at the Primary, Lower Elementary, or Upper Elementary levels. Montessori certification at the appropriate level required.
  • Prior teaching experience in a Montessori Primary, Lower Elementary or Upper Elementary classroom environment preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment required
  • Licensure or certification in Elementary Education and/or passing score on Praxis I and II preferred.
  • Advanced degrees, multiple credentials (e.g., Special Education, Math, English, ESOL, etc.), preferred
  • Spanish or French fluency a plus;

Position Summary
Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS is seeking an experienced Spanish teacher to support students in our primary, lower and upper elementary grades.  We are looking for someone who supports our belief that students should be global citizens and active members of our local communities linguistically and culturally, which necessitates students being bilingual and culturally-literate in Spanish. We aim to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning.

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Spanish teacher will work with our primary and elementary classes to support student learning and achievement in Spanish. ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking a Spanish teacher to work with teachers/guides in our PreK through 6th-grade classes. The Spanish teacher will be responsible for the following:

QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:

Learning Specialists inside and outside of classroom to support student learning and
achievement. The Math Intervention Specialist creates and implement strategies and develops
instructional plans (with teachers) to support the students who need math-specific
 
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
● Identify and evaluate appropriate materials/lessons for students and or training for
teachers
● Plan and conduct 6-8 week progress monitoring cycles with Guides and Specialists to
assess the need for improvements in mathematics instruction
● Assist teachers with the development and administration of informal and formal school
wide math assessments
● Collect, analyze and interpret classroom- and school-level mathematics data (i.e.,
NWEA MAP) as part of regular data meetings with teachers and administrators
● Provide small group instruction to individual and/or small groups of students (i.e.
differentiate to meet the learning needs of students)
● Provide professional development training/workshop appropriate for teachers and staff
as it relates to improving mathematics instruction at SSMA.
● Assist teacher with mathematics project-based teaching methods, activities and lesson
planning
● Participate in meeting(s) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information as
required with external agencies and/or parents
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching & Learning

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required from accredited college or university required (a
degree in Elementary Education and/or Mathematics preferred)
• Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in K-8 teaching math
and/or curriculum development and instruction preferred
• Experience with Common Core Standards for Mathematics, and research-based
math intervention programs
• Know of best practice teaching methodologies or frameworks with particular
emphasis on mathematics learning for students in grades K-6
• Elementary teaching license and/or certification or eligibility for certification
preferred
• Experience in delivering in-service and or professional development training
and/or workshops
• 3-5 prior years of experience in a public, public charter, private and/or
Montessori classroom environment(s) preferred
• Demonstrated success in raising student mathematics achievement levels
• Spanish or French fluency a plus

Description
Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS relies on a qualified and dedicated group of substitute staff to work with children when regular staff members are sick or attending to professional responsibilities outside the school. Bachelor's Degree required Montessori training and/or prior classroom teaching experience with children ages 3-12 preferred. Position Summary:

Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS (SSMA) is seeking an experienced out-of-school time Coordinator to manage and implement  SSMA’s Montessori After School Program (MAP Stars  -EdVenture). This school-run program, provides after-school arts, chess, movement, and enrichment programming for participating students. MAP-Stars EdVenture is a fee-based program.

 

The Coordinator will ensure we deliver high quality, fun, safe, and project-based after-school enrichment programming that delights the children attending our program. The Coordinator will be instrumental in ensuring that the MAPs Stars afterschool program models the day program’s Montessori principles and philosophy. 

 

Length of Position: This position is during the academic year while school is in session. There is also the potential for academic year Montessori Academy (Saturdays), winter break, spring break and end of year summer camp employment. The position hours are to be 1:30 pm- 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a contract position.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Designs all program ‘clubs’ (e.g., art, robotics, movement, coding, music, cooking, etc.), identify each ‘clubs’ learning goals, assigns  and supervises all program staff
  • Be able to develop both a robust in-person and on-line after school program with synchronous and asynchronous elements.
  • Develops inventory list of supplies needed to implement program
  • Takes and manages daily recording of attendance and reporting ADA (average daily attendance) to SSMA
  • Oversee daily snack distribution and cleanup
  • Insures program fees are being paid and corresponds with parents as needed
  • Works with students during extended learning/homework time (primarily elementary students) to ensure all needs are being met on an individualized level
  • Solicits feedback from the students and parents in order to improve the way a ‘club’ or activity is being offered.
  • Responsible for ensuring campus safety for  all students
  • Responsible for ensuring daily clean-up of classroom space at the end of activity/day.
  • Communicates with SSMA regarding any concerns regarding students in the program

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of. Operations the Custodian ensures optimal operation of equipment and safe conditions for students and staff.  The Custodian will operate, maintain, and repair assigned equipment and other building systems.

 

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

 

  • Monday through Friday, open the building. conduct walk-throughs of the interior and exterior premises to ensure that the premises are clean, exterior garbage disposed per the Waste Management contract, interior garbage cans are clean with new garbage bags, all sinks and toilets are in working order, temperature in building is appropriate, doors are unlocked, no smell of gas or other bad odors, etc. and take notice of and report issues to the Director of Operations
  • Monitor the weather daily to know when it will snow or other severe weather (eg., wind, rain, etc). When snowing, shovel snow from walkways and parking spaces in front and in back of the school and place salt on the walkways before leaving school
  • During autumn, rake, pile, and discard of leaves prior to the start of school and throughout the school day.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair required to detect and diagnose minor problems and correct the problems before they become major problems. For maintenance on ceilings and in heavy traffic areas, conduct the maintenance work prior to the start of school, in an effort to reduce accidents involving students and all personnel.
  • Responsible for disassembling defective equipment and repairing or replacing with the necessary parts. Dispose of faulty equipment with the proper disposal methods/containers. Inform the Director of Operations of repairs needed prior to making the repairs.
  • Climb ladders to replace light bulbs, fix ceiling fixtures, repair minor issues with furniture , walls, etc.
  • Perform plumbing services as required to bathroom toilets and sinks as well as kitchen sink.
  • Advise school management when a repair requires major work from a maintenance contractor.
  • Clean up spills, bathroom floods, vomit, bodily fluids, etc. in a safe and timely manner.
  • Clean bathrooms.
  • Clean windows, Sweep floors, vacuum carpets and/or mop floors as needed.
  • Monitor the water levels in the water coolers and replace water jugs as necessary.
  • Take ownership of rearranging items in storage areas to ensure maximum use and safe passageways.
  • Escort visitors such as postal delivery personnel, maintenance personnel, service technicians, and exterminators to appropriate location for repairs/service/off-loading. Inform the Director of Operations of visitors promptly.
  • Ensure the necessary materials and supplies are stocked, and available in the office, classrooms, and kitchen.
  • Maintain the keys to the various doors in the facility
  • Maintain the lawn, watering as appropriate
  • Lift heavy materials and equipment as requested
  • Any other tasks as requested by management

 

 Required Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Full building support experience preferred, general plumbing, electrical and light HVAC
  • Experienced in working in occupied buildings
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Must be able to assess a job, obtain materials and carry out the work to a high level of satisfaction
  • Preference give to professional with a full set of hand tools, all power tools and safety equipment will be provided by the School, but looked after by the user
